Whether you’re a Hanson fan, a Nashville resident, or both, I’ve compiled a list of the top 5 reasons to see Hanson’s Underneath Experience Tour on October 30th & 31st in Nashville, TN.
1. The Underneath:Experience Tour
If you’re a long-time Hanson fan, or even a new fan, this tour will be unlike any tour they’ve ever done before. They’re only stopping in 12 cities, with two back-to-back shows at each stop, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first independent album, Underneath. Night one will be an acoustic show, and night two will be the electric show we all know and love.
2. Cannery Hall
While Hanson has never played a public show at Cannery Hall’s Mainstage (they did play a private industry show there a few years back), there is a little bit of Hanson History steeped into the building. Cannery Hall has three music venues in one: Mainstage (the biggest), a mid-sized The Mil, and a smaller Row One Stage. While it was under a different name at the time (Mercy Lounge), Hanson played the The Mil as part of the Tin Pan South Songwriter’s Festival in 2009, (along with Mark Hudson, Gary Burr, and Victoria Shaw) and it was at this show that they played “Carry You There” for the first time, even before Stand Up Stand Up was recorded.
3. Halloween
Speaking of 2009, did you know that’s the last time Hanson played a regular, public tour show on Halloween? So unless you want to shell out $$$ and plan a trip to Epcot on the gamble that that’s when Hanson will be playing Eat To The Beat in 2025, Nashville 2024 is your best chance to show off your Halloween costume at a Hanson show. (Just be mindful of both the venue’s rules and the fans behind you, please.) The shows don’t start until 7pm, so you’ll still have plenty of time for trick-or-treating with your kiddos before you pop on over. (And bonus: you can let your partner or babysitter deal with their sugar high and inevitable subsequent crash.) There’s also a dance party with Taylor Hanson at the DJ helm after the show on the 30th, and I’ve already heard word on the street that some people are planning to be in costume for that night as well. Can’t decide on a costume? This is the perfect solution! Between house parties on Saturday the 26th, two Hanson shows, AND a dance party, why not choose all four costumes? You can be Travis Kelce, Pennywise, Beetlejuice, and Elphaba all in the same year!
4. Nashville
But why Nashville you ask? Nashville is actually quite accessible from most of the country. Our airport continues to grow and add new nonstop flights every year, and it’s within a day drive (10 hours or less) from Chicago, Kansas City, Tulsa, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, and everywhere in between.
Halloween weekend will be a great time of year to visit. This is right around when our weather finally turns from hot and muggy to a beautiful fall that only lasts about two weeks. It should be peak color time too, so all you northern fans can get a second chance at leaf peeping this season! Be sure to take a drive down the famous Natchez Trace for the best views, and grab a bite to eat at The Loveless Cafe while you’re out there.
If you’re thinking, “but I already went to Nashville on the last tour”, I promise there’s something new to do, go, eat this time around. Here’s a list of 12 New Restaurants just from this month alone. Nashville 2024 is not the Nashville from the last tour, and it probably isn’t the Nashville that will be here on the next tour, either.
If you’re more interested in Nashville staples than the new and trendy, I’ve got some great news for you. Running on it’s 42nd year, Arnold’s Country Kitchen is a classic southern meat-and-three cafeteria, and it’s a convenient 5 minute walk from Cannery Hall.
